Digital Storytelling Workshop (Jan 14 & 21, 2009)

Part 1

7 Things You Should Know About Digital Storytelling

Digital storytelling involves combining narrative with digital content to create a short movie. Digital stories can include interactive movies with highly produced audio and visual effects or presentation slides with narration or music. Some learning theorists believe that as a pedagogical technique, storytelling can be effectively applied to nearly any subject. Constructing a narrative and communicating it effectively require one to think carefully about the topic and the audience's perspective. (from Educause as a PDF pamphlet)

  1. Spend 5 to 10 minutes gathering photos
  2. Connect the camera and use Picassa to import pictures into a folder under your name(s) on the computer.
  3. Open Photostory to begin narrating your photos.
  4. Save the Photostory design and export the story as a movie (into your folder).

The one computer classroom idea is baaack! How do you manage student access to the laptop?

More Ideas

Illustrating a single concept with images is a beginning.

How do you get your students to do deeper thinking?

What are other ways to involve students in creating high-quality products?
